Happy birthday to actress Jean Peters – born Oct. 15, 1926 in East Canton, OH. Peters came to Hollywood after winning a beauty pageant in 1945 and soon appeared in a handful of moderately successful films in the late 1940s and early 50s. In 1953, she starred in three classic noir films, A Blueprint For Murder, Vicki, and Pickup On South Street. Her role as the sexy tough-talking Candy, in Pickup On South Street, was probably her most memorable performances. In 1957, Peters married Howard Hughes and all but disappeared from public life until their divorce in 1971, after which, she returned to acting and appeared in several television movies and mini-series in the 1970s and 80s. Peters died of leukemia in 2000.
